Nanaimo Winemakers 2017 People’s Choice Wine Competition

The Nanaimo Winemakers held the 2017 People’s Choice Wine Competition December 5 at Cavalotti Lodge. There were 3 medal winning Red wines and 4 medal winning White wines entered in the competition. All wines were judged at the 2017 Nanaimo Winemakers Varietal competition in March 2017. Each of the wines was a medal winner at the NW Varietal competition.

This was a very tough competition as many members commented that they would like to select “all of the above” on the ballot sheets. Since that choice was not provided on the ballot sheets they had to dig deep and make a hard decision on which white and red wine they preferred above the other entries.

Honourable mentions go to the following Nanaimo Winemakers for their delicious and well crafted entries:

Dave Burt – Pinot Noir

Cindy Scott – Merlot 2012 *This is a correction from the original posting “Zinfandel”.

Ian Murfitt – Sauvignon Blanc

James Waring – Late Harvest Viognier

The 20 members present chose the Sauvignon Blanc/Muscat Blend and the Super Tuscan from Peter Huyghebaerts cellar as the winner of the White and Red People’s Choice Trophies respectively.

Congratulations to Peter Huyghebaert for sharing his outstanding wines with his fellow winemakers and winning the 2017 Red and White People’s Choice Trophies.
